Hello!

First of all thank you for visiting my lifestyle blog PhiloSOFIE! I guess you are all wondering who is the face behind this blog and why I want to share my interests and passions with you.

Well, my name is Sofie Schurmans and I’m 24 years old. I’m a student at the Free University of Brussels where I study both Dutch and English linguistics and literature. I’ve always enjoyed reading: from the age of two-and-a-half my mother used to take me to the library. My interest in language was developed quite early, you could say! English was a very natural second choice, as I’ve always liked singing in English.

With this, I introduced you to a second passion in my life: music. Ever since I discovered that my singing wasn’t that awful, I have been hymning through life. I also like to play the piano. I think it’s challenging to try new music styles and making new creations by putting different styles together.

As I always wanted to become a famous singer one day, I figured out very early in life that it was also important to look good, both on and off stage. Looking good is very subjective I find, and for me it’s not about a pretty face and being skinny. It’s about wearing something where you feel good in and that flatters you. “When you feel pretty, you will look pretty” is my life motto. People’s opinion about my outfits or looks never bothered me much. Ever since I read the magazine ELLE for the very first time, I knew that fashion and beauty were going to play a huge part of my life.

Because I think it’s important to feel good in your own skin, I like to eat healthy and go the fitness on a regular basis (believe me, I don’t always find it that easy!). To try new recipes in an attempt to make something both delicious and salubrious is one of the things I like to do in my free time. Another thing I enjoy doing is travelling. It’s so much fun discovering new places and cultures. Besides, who doesn’t like to escape from the stress and leave your everyday life behind for a couple of days?

So, now you know me a little bit better! I hope this motivates you to read or keep reading about the things I am passionate about.
