Outfit: how to wear your summer dress in Winter

When you invest your money in a lovely dress, you of course wish to get wear out of it. However, nowadays you can buy a new dress and next Summer it’s out of fashion. This is why I created an outfit with a dress which I bought last Summer to show you how to wear your summer dress throughout the year and by this way, to get maximal wear out of it!

First of all, you need – of course – your preferred summer dress. I opted for a longer dress for this outfit, but you can also choose to wear a shorter dress. I would advise though, to pick out a dress with lining, because otherwise it would probably get too cold. I love this dress, although it kind of grew on me ( it wasn’t love at first sight here), because it gives an outfit some extra oomph. The ruffles and the height difference between the front and the back add some volume to my look. I love to wear it with this big black with gold hardware belt, to create a waistline.

The first thing you need to add to turn this into a winter outfit is a turtleneck. You can choose one which fits the colour(s) of your dress – like I did here – or you can wear a contrasting colour. The last option, I would only pick if you have a rather simple dress, without special prints, otherwise it would get very messy and too busy.

Secondly, you will require some tights. Corresponding to the weather, you can choose a higher denier or maybe even a woolen option. For the colour, it is best to go for a more basic one such as brown, black,… but if you want to spice it up you can of course add a splash of colour. Even a neon tint would look nice with a black dress for example. If you do this, try to keep this colour in the same spectre as the colour of your turtleneck.

Lastly, you only need some details to finish off your look: a warm coat, some comfy boots and a little handbag to pack your essentials. A woolen coat, such as I wear in this outfit, is always a nice investment piece. I already got so much wear out it, because it fits great with every outfit and it keeps me nice and warm. I chose a plain coat, because my dress was the centre of attention in this outfit, since it has a flower print and ruffles. The boots which I selected have a higher heel, which gives the look a feminine boost but they are also very comfortable to walk in. They are suède and your toes don’t freeze off when you wear them, which is certainly an advantage if you ask me. The bag is also an all time favourite of mine, which matches with my belt.
